I’m kinda proud of that last one of the model sitting in the chair — it came after a few frustrating classes when we were doing a lot of really short poses (2-5 minutes each) and I felt like I couldn’t get anything substantial down on paper.

Ingredients. The beer is for me, not for the whoopie pies.

The cake mixture was pretty straightforward — just throw everything in a bowl and mix it together. This is something I can do.

Then spoon it onto a cookie sheet and throw it in the oven.

Tasty!

The filling involved a few more steps. I think I cooked the milk and flour mixture a little too long. Also, since I don’t have an electric mixture I figured that I would partially melt the butter first, but I think it made the ultimate filling a little too loose.

I put the filling in a ziplock bag and used it like a pastry bag to do the filling. Easy and clean! Also it helps if you are watching The X-Files on netflix streaming while doing this.

Put them together and voila, Whoopie Pies!

So one of the great things about living in New York is the public transportation. It has it’s problems, like anything, but it is nice to be able to get around relatively easily without a car for a reasonable amount of money. Most people don’t own cars, which makes it even more imperative that the system works well and gets people where they need to go. BUT you may have heard that there is this recession thing, and that New York State has yet to pass a budget, and that the MTA has a huge budget shortfall.  And so, starting June 27, they are completely cutting out the B71 bus (which starts two blocks from my apartment and then goes along Union Street to Park Slope and Carroll Gardens) and also cutting down the route of the B48 (which picks up a block from my apartment and drops off a block from the ladyfriend’s apartment). !!!

I don’t really have more to say about this other than that I’m cranky about it. It’s frustrating to see something that is so integral to the functioning of the city constantly get the shaft. I guess this is where you end up when most of the people in the country think that there is something inherently evil about taxes. I’d gladly pay more if I could have my buses back.
